hear ye, hear ye!

Ooh yes Arcade Fire have posted a postcard on their website, feast your eyes.

For the folk with shit eyesight - a new single due for release in 2 weeks! Cannot waaait!

I like how everyone is spreading themselves around and forming supergroups of late. Latest one of interest involves lead singer of Snow Patrol, drummer from Belle and Sebastian and guitarsit from R.E.M. calling themselves Tired Pony. Weird mix, doesn't sound too bad at all. Check out the vid up on their official website http://www.tiredpony.com/.

Boys need to wear suits more often. A guys chances of getting laid increase 30% if he is wearing a suit. This may or may not be a completely bullshit statistic I have made up BUT loooook at what The Strokes guitarist Albert Hammond Junior has done. Gone and made a line of suits for Confederacy for the modern male. Genious. Suit up boys, look at the entire range here: http://viewmorepics.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewPicture&friendID=138832981&albumId=2413220

Here's a lovely song that makes you want to go to Ric's and meet an awkward boy with a beanie and dance to The Kinks. The Divine Comedy with 'At the Indie Disco'. Album is due for release May 31. Could be worth keeping an eye on, eh?

Steve Aoki is pulling some names in for his next album including vocals by Kele Okereke from Bloc Party, Weezer and even Lil Jon will be in the mix to no doubt throw in some 'Yeaaah' 'Okaaaay''s in from time to time.

Did anyone hear this cover of Kid Cudi by Cloud Control on Triple J last week? I relived and downloaded it I enjoyed it that much. Have a gander. Cloud Control covers Kid Cudi | Like a Version | triple j

Over and out. Roger.

Interpol, M.I.A, James Murphy news + just announced Brisneyland gigs

Some good and bad news.

Bad news - Interpol bassist Carlos Dengler has left the band to follow different pathways. Dengler finished recording the latest album with the lads but won't be coming on tour. No word if they will be gracing our shores again, tour dates yet to be released. Fingers crossed!

In good news, Interpol are giving a free download from their website of new single 'Lights'. http://www.interpolnyc.com/

M.I.A song called 'XXXO' was played on BBC Radio . A radio rip on youtube is all I could find on it. M.I.As album is due for release on July 29.

Bit closer to home. CHECK OUT THESE GUYS!! Jinja Safari, a triple j unearthed band that reminds me of Sigur Ros' latest 'Med Sud I Eyrum Vid Spilum Endalaust' ('With a buzz in our ears we play endlessly'. Its fresh, makes me want to dance around in a pair of gumboots at a full moon gig or something equally as liberating. Their myspaaach: http://www.myspace.com/jinjasafari . The Sydney chaps will be supporting Miami Horrors gig in Sydney. Looking forward to hearing more from these guys.

And what's a post without mentioning James Murphy, really? His comment to the New Yorker about LCD Soundsystems live shows just makes me think 'He's someones dad/husband' Can you imagine the houseparties at that house?! By golly I hope his spawn are muscically gifted, no pressure or anything.
Back from my tangents; perhaps the reason LCD Soundsystems live shows are incredible: "Nobody onstage can hear anything the audience doesn't hear. No click tracks, no guides, nothing can be heard onstage that isn't going to the front of the house. If it's a synthesizer, you have to make that sound onstage happen with a synth. If it's an organic sound, it absolutely cannot be put on a sampler. No 'feeling it'. No sunglasses. No rocking out. No improvising. No noodling. No psyching up the crowd. No pretending you're cool. I understand that if someone's going to make me his idea of cool I can't control that. But no wearing the rock-and-roll hat." MELT.

Some giggities just announced:

25th May - The Dillinger Escape Plan - Hi Fi Bar, West End.

29th May - Katy Steele (Little Birdy) - X & Y Bar, Fortitude Valley.

4th June - DZ - Alhambra Lounge, Fortitude Valley.

17th June - Ash Grunwald - Irish Club, Toowoomba.

After a loooong hiatus..

Third year uni schedules have prevented Smeared Frost posts for a while.. so here's a quick post with the latest music news off the top of the ol' noggin'.

Well what more need to be said music-wise than Splendour in the Grass... purely amazing. www.splendourinthegrass.com for the ridiculous line up details of the Woodford-bound festival.

Other quick snippets in music news of late:

LCD Soundsystem announce Splendour will be their last Australian tour for the band and are planning on making the last shows something else. James Murphy, a god in his own right, (listen to 'All My Friends' and try not connect it with everything beautiful and sad you've ever experienced all within 7 minutes) is set to let loose as he says this will be the last time they will have the chance to do any of the wack shit they have ever wanted to do on stage.
Their latest album 'This is Happening!' has caused stirs as they take a step away from the instrumental side of 2007's 45:33 and back to the epic artform of repetition, 8 minute tracks and some amazing alternative dance music. Skip 'Drunk Girls' that shit is as disappointing as your parents found you when you asked them for money for Splendour tickets.

The Killers frontman Brandon Flowers has announced he will be releasing a solo album called The Flamingo. No mention of dates as yet.

Friendly Fires have made the greatest call of 2010 saying they will not be doing a MGMT on their next album, guitarist Edd Gibson stating 'I really hope we are not going to do what MGMT did. Whatever it is they have done, we want to steer well clear of it. I don't understand why they would make such a leap, go from great pop songs to just any old acoustic music played in anyone's bedroom."
Ahhhh feels good not sucking MGMTs arse. The scene kids cry - 'Its just more indie that's why you don't like it as much' eff off I love indie, 'Congratulations' (which was not all that bad an album just not anything more than that) was a blatant attempt at trying to be as queer as possible to steer clear of commercial fame. Successful boys, now have fun playing below par music to the kids who haven't realised how shit you are live yet. Pet hate: pretentious bands who make music to not be as commercial as their last album instead of just making music they love. (queue The Presets next release haha) END RANT.

Frightened Rabbits: Scottish, playing Splendour and this song 'The Twist', which is not their best musically (try 'Swim till You Can't See Land' for best judgment) has been in my head all afternoon. Lyrically amazing. Human heat - we all need some from time to time.

Kasabian are returning to Australia and playing Riverstage 25th July.

The Fratellis have called it quits due to the ol' musical differences thing.

And did I mention Splendour? Frost everywhere.

Bloc Party's Kele Solo Album

Kele Okereke, best known as the frontman for Bloc Party, is set to drop his first debut album in June. The album is meant to be more dance than what the Bloc fans are accustomed to but really, can this man do wrong? First single will be released one week before the official album release.

New FOALS!

MASSIVE news. Foals have released a video of 'Spanish Sahara', the first promo single from their forthcoming album due May 10.

The Foals steer away from the manic 'you-put-that-song-on-and-there-will-not-be-normal-dancing' vibe. Instead it's this slow yet insanely intense melody but still undeniably the Foals. The cinematography is pretty amazing too. Wait till you get mid-song.. queue intense build up and wa-lah.. you have goosebumps.

No Waves

Finally! The culturally deprived Sunshine Coast receives a morsel of art and live music goodness. Local lads have brought No Waves to a Kawana Waters warehouse for a night of art, photography, graphic design and delicious bands.

Artists Jayden Osbourne, Jake Springthorpe, Joy French and many more will be covering the wall with their masterpieces. Plus the Bats girls will be showcasing their live art.

If that wasn't tempting enough, the night is BYO which spells big house party in my eyes. With sweet decor and the likes of Rogerthat, Vacations (debut show) and Revolver & Son providing the soundtrack, its going to be one for the scrapbook.

Bring out your finest Fruity Lexia and head up the coast on Friday, 26th March.
24 Innovation Park Way, Kawana Waters.
